CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction to the basic laws and theories of biological inheritance and variation.

OBJECTIVES & SCOPE: Provide an introduction to basic laws and theories of biological inheritance and variation. To familiarize the student with the basic cellular and molecular concepts within the science of genetics. Also included will be a brief look into the technology used in the field.

GRADING: Grades will be based on four hourly exams. The student will have the choice of taking the exams on the CCC campus or at a participating institution. Prior arrangements must be made and approved by a CCC administrator (Dean or Department Chair) during the first week of classes. Each exam will contain 50 to 75 questions. The exams will be primarily objective being made up of multiple choice, true or false, and matching questions. Some short essay questions may be part of on exam.

The first exam represents 15% of the total grade. The lower value is NOT a reflection of the importance of the material. The material represents the foundation for the rest of the course. The value is lower to allow the student to "get acquainted" with the style of the author of the exam; Exam II = 25%; Exam III = 30%; and Exam IV = 30%.

There is NO extra credit work.
