Transfer Counseling and Advising is an integral component of a successful transfer to a four year school or specialized program. The student’s community college academic performance, geographical preference and available financial resources are all factors which influence the selection of the transfer school.

Students should obtain the catalog of the four year institution to familiarize themselves with transfer admission procedures. Then, each applicant should have a discussion with his/her advisor who can assist with the application process, and understanding the pertinent details of selecting certain majors. For example, a highly competitive Business School at a university may require a 3.0 grade point average to be considered for admission to a major in Management, Marketing. or Accounting.

Every applicant should visit and tour the transfer school campus prior to submitting an application, and if possible, attend a general information session at the school and seek guidance from the college’s advising staff.
