Program Overview
HE CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE CREDENTIAL TRAINING PROGRAM (CDA) is designed specifically for individuals who want to learn about the development of young children and be able to demonstrate the teacher skills associated with providing high quality child care. Participants in this program learn the basic principles of early childhood education and class discussions are varied to include topics such as safety, health, learning environments, discipline, family involvement, child development, professionalism and more! Practical information that easily transfers to the work setting is emphasized. In addition, candidates are provided with guidance to :
Develop a Professional Resource File
Distribute/Collect Parent Opinion Questionnaires
Identify an early childhood professional who is eligible to serve as Advisor
Prepare for the CDA written assessment
Prepare for the Oral Situational Interview
UCCESSFUL COMPLETION of this program earns the student twelve college credits toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and fulfills the candidate's education requirement to earn the CDA credential.
CDA Coursework & Calendar
The CDA training program spans two semesters., with starting points in both fall and spring.
Part I
The candidate enrolls in ECE*101 (3 credits) & ECE 180 (3 credits) and attends four session per week for approximately 6 hours.
Part II Fall
The candidate enrolls in ECE * 181 ( 3 credits ) & PSY* 204 (3 credits) and meets four session per week for approximately 6 hours.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must:
Be 18 years or older
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
Be currently employed or routinely volunteer in a state-licensed early childhood setting. (Center-based, family or group home day care.)
Cost
UITION AND FEES for this program (12 college credits) are $1332.00. If this is the first time you are taking courses at Capital Community College, a $20.00 admission fee is due. (Fees are subject to change. General fees are non-refundable.) Tuition and fees must be paid at the time of registration for the full 9 credit, two semester training program. Additional fees, (paid at a later date) include the cost of a textbook, CDA registration packet and assessment fees, and an advisor fee.
