Health Information Technology (HIT) Training Program

New session starting in June 2012!

Thanks to a grant from the Office of the National Coordinator of Information, Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Grant Number 90CC0080, the cost to students is $425. Students will be required to purchase their own textbook.

Capital Community College is one of 23 community colleges to participate in a 12-state consortium for Health Information Technology education. Led by Tidewater Community College in Virginia, Capital is the only college in Connecticut involved. Tidewater was awarded a $16,017,608 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to head up this group charged with educating 7,500 information technology (IT) professionals in healthcare. Capital Community College will provide training and education to up to 300 information management specialists and clinicians in the emerging field of health informatics over the next two years.

Individuals will participate in training to develop competencies in health information technology for the workforce roles of practice workflow and information management redesign specialists, clinician/practitioner consultants and software support technicians.  The HIT training will be established alongside the College's array of nationally accredited programs in nursing and allied health. Capital is working in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Social Services (DSS), eHealthConnecticut and the Regional Extension Center to support Connecticut's efforts to prepare a workforce to build the State's health information technology exchange capacity.
