Computer Programming

Designed to provide the student with knowledge and skills of several important areas of computer programming including COBOL, and Visual Basic.

Completion of this certificate will provide the student with several important job-related skills in computer programming. In addition, nearly all of the credits are directly transferable into the Associate in Science Degree Program in Computer and Information Systems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of computers and computer nomenclature and why they are essential components in business and society
  2. Demonstrate the ability to successfully code, compile, execute, and debug programs in various programming languages
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of basic programming and logic, through the use of Flow charts and pseudocode
  4. Differentiate and apply the concepts of structured and unstructured programming
  5. Demonstrate programming skills with Object Orientated and fourth generation programming languages
  6. Demonstrate the ability to use software tools for program development.
  7. Demonstrate a basic understanding of relational databases and concepts, including, design, creation, and data manipulation
