Chicano poet and activist, Luis J. Rodriguez is best known for his award winning autobiography, Always Running: La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A., published in 1993 by Curbstone Press. He has also published many books of poetry. His first collection of fiction came out in 2002 entitled: The Republic of East L.A. .
