Michael BiesMICHAEL BIES, Program Co-Director
TV Production, Internship Coordinator, CSN Student News Club
Michael Bies holds a B.A. from the University of Hartford, where he was instrumental in starting a weekly student-produced television news program. Alumni of "Channel 2 News" have gone on to careers in broadcasting both on-air and behind the scenes. After UofH, Mike came to Capital as Media Specialist and has taught or co-taught Communication courses since Spring 1996.

Christine BreslinCHRISTINE BRESLIN
Digital Photography
Christine Breslin has taught digital and traditional photography extensively in Connecticut. She holds an A.S. in Graphic Design from Tunxis Community College, a B.F.A. in Photography from the University of Connecticut, and an M.F.A. in Photography from the University of Hartford. Christine has taught numerous art and photography courses at UofH, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, Bushnell Partners in Art, UConn, Tunxis, Manchester Community College, and the Learning Corridor.

Ken DiMaggioKEN DiMAGGIO
Film Study & Appreciation
Ken DiMaggio grew up in New Britain, CT, a factory town whose old balcony'd movie theaters and drive-ins with their raw biker movies and cheesy horror flicks later became his inspiration to become a delinquent and rebel angel.

He holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa, an M.A. in English from the University of Connecticut, and has published about a dozen poems, some of which have appeared in notable anthologies like The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, and Off the Cuffs: Poems by and About the Police.

He is presently an Instructor in Humanities at Capital, where he teaches composition, literature, creative writing, and film. For the Spring 2005 semester, he taught the Film Appreciation class that focused on the work of director Spike Lee.  Film has been a favorite pasttime for Ken, and in the upcoming semester he will get to teach some of his favorites such as Goodfellas, Easy Rider, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Catherine Erik-SoussiCATHERINE ERIK-SOUSSI
Visual Communication

Catherine Erik-Soussi earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at the University of Hartford, an M.S. in Instructional Design, and an undergraduate degree in Art from Regis College and the International University of Art in Florence, Italy. Aside from her professional practice in continuing education, she loves to teach, and is delighted to introduce Capital students to the excitement that occurs when technology and art merge to produce powerful message design. Catherine is Director of Graduate Admissions and Professional Studies at Saint Joseph College and a doctoral student in Educational Leadership at the University of Hartford.

Bruce MillerBRUCE MILLER
TV Production, CSN Student News Club
Bruce Miller is a Media Specialist in Capital's Academic Media Technology department. He has taught Video Production courses at the College since the Fall 2003 semester. Bruce received his M.A. from Fairfield University and has worked in the field of video production, editing, and instructional television for 20 years. He has been on the Capital faculty since Spring 2003.

Steven MinklerSTEVEN MINKLER, Program Co-Director

Steven Minkler serves both as Communication program Co-Coordinator and Director of Academic Media Technology at Capital. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Communication, and an Ed.D. degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Hartford. He has taught English and Communication classes at Capital and at the University of Hartford. Since 1990, Steve has built the Communication courses and programs at Capital and is thrilled that the new facility and new program are finally in place for students.

Jacqueline PetersJACQUELINE PETERS
Public Speaking, Journalism
Jacqueline Peters received her bachelor's degree in English from Spelman College and her masters degree in Communication from the University of Hartford. She teaches English and Communication courses at Capital Community College. She has also taught at Tunxis Community College, the University of Hartford, and Central Connecticut State University. In addition, she had conducted workshops on male and female identity in the Connecticut State prison system.

George PetroGEORGE PETRO
Photography
George Petro has taught at Capital since 2000 and has been involved in many forms of photography since the late 70's. Specializing in black & white fine art images, he learned his craft following the styles of the great masters – Adams, Weston, Sexton and Markiw.

With a particular forte for landscape and candid portraiture, he has exhibited his work around Connecticut and has won many awards including several Best of Show and First Place honors.  As an instructor, he stresses that there is a extraordinary image waiting in almost every situation and award winning skills can be learned by mastering just a few basics.  In the digital age, these skills still apply and the traditional forms of photography will become even more valued.

Jennifer ThomassenJENNIFER THOMASSEN
Public Speaking, Independent Study, CSN Student News Club
Jennifer Thomassen has taught in the Communication program at Capital since 2000. She earned a B.A. in Communication from Ithaca College in New York and is a Master of Arts degree candidate at Saint Joseph College. Jennifer is co-owner and manager of a video production company that produces educational, family, public relations, and public service videos.

Her teaching endeavors also include several years as Instructor of Film and Television Studies at the Learning Corridor Academy of Arts. During her many years of service at Capital, Jennifer has worked as Media Associate for Capital's Academic Media Technology department, an academic Tutor, and member of the Student Learning Assessment Implementation Team. Jennifer has most recently been working on the Communication Curriculum in the areas of development, design, assessment, and expansion of course offerings. You may also find her advising students in their semester of Independent Study or in the Capital Student News club.

Michael WaltersMICHAEL WALTERS
Public Speaking, Toastmasters Club
Michael Walters came to Capital in 2005 with a 21-year career in education, career counseling, and HR management. He has taught on the elementary, high school, and college level throughout the Greater Hartford area, held positions of responsibility within the corporate sector in human resources such as Fleet Bank, Hartford Hospital, Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce, and St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center.

Mr. Walters received his B.A. in Speech Communication and Professional Theatre Arts from N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro, NC, and a Master's of Science, Education/Human Resources Education degree through the University of New Haven, and his Master's in Education Management/Counseling from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. He is a member of the Board of Directors, Women's League Child Development Center; Board of Trustees, Jumoke Academy; American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA), American Society for Training and Development (ASTD); Board of Directors and Host of "Black Perspective" (NBC 30), and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
