PLACEMENT TESTING CENTER

Welcome to the Placement Testing Center webpage at Capital Community College! Our Center is dedicated to providing quality testing services to incoming and current students. These services comprise of the following: ACCUPLACER® General Placement test, ACCUPLACER® English as-A-Second Language (ESL) test and TEAS V exam. Students must ensure they have been accepted to the College and have received a Banner ID number prior to taking the ACCUPLACER® General Placement and ESL tests.

ACCUPLACER® GENERAL PLACEMENT TEST

Capital uses the ACCUPLACER® computerized test to provide you with useful information about your academic skills in Math, Writing, and Reading. The results of this test, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your Math and English course selection. You cannot "pass" or "fail" the placement test, but it is very important that you prepare and do your very best so we can have an accurate measure of your academic skills.

Taking the test:

  • Click Here To Make An Appointment!
  • There is no cost for taking the test.
  • The test is untimed, but on average students take 2-3hours to complete the test.
  • Please review Test Center Policies before your scheduled test.
  • Scratch paper will be provided.
  • Results are available upon completion.

Test Day:

  • Please come to Room 220, 20-minutes prior to your scheduled test.
  • You are required to bring a government-issued, non-expired photo ID (e.g. driver's license, permanent resident card or passport).
  • Bring your Banner ID # and a writing utensil.
  • Parking is available in the Morgan Street Garage. Parking tickets will be validated at the welcome desk in the lobby (1st floor).

Students with Disabilities

If you have a documented disability and require testing accommodations, please contact Helena Carrasquillo at 860.906.5204 or hcarrasquillo@captialcc.edu. To obtain accommodations, you must schedule an appointment with Helena and provide documentation which describes your disability and supports your need to receive accommodations. This should be done 2 weeks prior to your test date. Accommodations will only be provided to students who have completed this process.

SCHEDULE:

TEAS V EXAM

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The objectives assessed on the TEAS exam are those which nurse educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry-level academic readiness of the nursing program applicants.

Taking the TEAS V:

  • Time limit is 209 minutes
  • 170 four-option, multiple choice questions:
    • READING: 48 questions, 58 minutes
      paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
    • MATH: 34 questions, 51 minutes
      whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.
    • SCIENCE: 54 questions, 66 minutes
      science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.
    • ENGLISH and LANGUAGE USAGE: 34 questions, 34 minutes
      punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
  • Please review Test Center Policies prior to taking the test
  • Results are available upon completion

How do I prepare?

The ATI website has many resources available for purchase, including: Learning Strategies, TEAS Pre-test Study Manual and TEAS Online Practice assessments.

How do I register?

  1. Visit atitesting.com and click "Create an account" (follow the screen prompts).
  2. Please ensure you have listed Capital CC Connecticut as your institution of choice on your ATI Profile.
  3. Select the date you would like to test and add it to your cart for checkout. Test registration fee is $35.00.

Test Day:

  • Please come to Room 220, 20-minutes prior to your scheduled exam.
  • Students who arrive late will NOT be admitted into the exam.
  • You are required to bring a government-issued, non-expired photo ID.
  • Bring your ATI username and password.
  • Parking is available in the Morgan Street Garage. Parking tickets will be validated at the welcome desk in the lobby (1st floor).

Note: There is no waiting period to retake the test.

TEST CENTER POLICIES:

  1. Students are required to present a valid government issued photo ID (driver's license, Passport, State ID, permanent resident card) to take the test.
  2. The following items are prohibited in the test room (but are not limited to): calculators, dictionaries, electronic or photographic devices, food, beverages, books, translators, notes and study materials.
  3. You are only allowed to have your ID, scratch paper and pencil on the computer workstation.
  4. All personal belongings must be placed under the computer workstation or at the front of the room during testing.
  5. Children are NOT allowed in the test room. Proctors are not responsible for the supervision of children.
  6. Talking and disruptive behavior are not permitted in the test room. Students may only communicate with the Center's staff (proctors) during testing.
  7. Proctors are not allowed to assist students in answering any questions on the test.
  8. There are no scheduled breaks during testing.
  9. Students are prohibited from accessing any personal items such as cell phone, backpack, purse or study materials during testing.
  10. Scratch paper and pencils must be returned to the proctor before leaving the test room.
  11. Surfing of the internet and use of other computer programs while testing are prohibited!
  12. Proctors are authorized to dismiss any student from the test session due to misconduct, cheating or violation of Test Center's policies.

Important notice for students taking the TEAS V exam:

Students who arrive late will not be admitted into the exam therefore they would have forfeited their test registration payment. Capital is unable to reschedule any test due to a student being late, cancelling or missing their test date. Please contact ATI Customer Service at 1.800.667.7531 if you have further questions and concerns.
