Subscribing to Discussion Groups
Discussion groups usually maintain two network addresses-one for subscriptions (and other administrative commands) and the other for postings to the group.
On the Internet, the administrative address has the same name as the discussion list, with the suffix -REQUEST added. (On BITnet, the administrative address is listserv@gerinet-request@ubvm.cc.buffalo.edu
and use the following line as the text of your message:

If you want to subscribe to a list on BITnet, you'd join by sending the above message to
